This time of year always brings some of nature's greatest glory, with the fiery reds, oranges and yellows of the foliage starkly contrasted with brilliant blue skies and crisp, cool air. A chance to be outside in the splendor of nature always brings me into the present moment, and temporarily, all my worries, sadness and fear fade into the background. I take deep, grateful breaths.
The changing color (and eventual falling) of leaves also reminds me of the inevitability of change in this life, and how not to resist. Some leaves release and flutter in circles and spirals for a while on the wind before coming to rest on the ground, while others just drop quickly in a straight line. Either way, there is no resistance. I want to be like a leaf - when it's time to let go, I just trust - and let go.
