Somatic roots of creativity, week one: SPACE

We are off and running with my new movement-based mentorship program designed for our amazing community of curious movers here in Indy! Big thanks to Indy Movement Arts for supporting this new program that consists of four 2-hour workshops and a final free, informal showing. All the workshops quickly filled past capacity when we opened registration in March, and we are glad to be able to support five full scholarship recipients!

Please read about the full program on the Indy Movement Arts website HERE and mark your calendars for our free, informal showing at the IMAC studio on Monday, June 12 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. This will be a chance to learn about what we explored and see some really interesting dances that emerged in the process. All are welcome!

This week we explored various ways of experiencing SPACE - inner space (what is sometimes called the "skinesphere", within the body), near reach space (the sense of space very close to our body), expanding out to our "kinesphere" (the personal space around us) and far reach space - wide open space as far out as our minds can go. As we moved with nonjudgmental awareness of ourselves and others, the Japanese concept of "Ma" emerged - the space between that completes the whole.
